Skip The Starbucks: Raspberry Limeade Splash

I will be the first to admit it: I spend too much time (and money) at Starbucks. I work from home and I need to get out of the house. It’s the only easily walkable cafe from where I live. I have a dozen excuses. But the fact is that one day I walked in to get my coffee and one of the baristas knew my order. It’s not very complicated, but it’s got a few quirks. I was a regular. It was time to slow down.

What am I supposed to drink without Starbucks, though, that will be nearly so good? And what are you going to drink? The next time you have a craving for something sweet and cold, try this out.

Raspberry Limeade Splash

What you need:

  • A blender
  • Ice cubes
  • Fresh raspberries
  • Limeade (okay, I buy this in the store)
  • Some fresh lime if you have it
  • Highball glass
  • (Gin optional for the grownups)

Combine 6 ounces of limeade with a handful of ice cubes and a half cup of raspberries in a blender. You’ll want to use the ice setting if your blender has one to break up the cubes and get a foamy consistency. Pour into glasses and garnish with a raspberry and fresh lime – add a little zest if you’re up for a bitter contrast.

This drink is like a fruity version of a frappuccino, perfect for summer but less heavily loaded with sugar. As for the optional gin, feel free to make it tequila since you’ve already got the lime. It’s summer, you’re poolside, and it’s time to enjoy.
